The results of a recent consumer survey on the use of flexible packaging commissioned by Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE) reveal some interesting results. The representative survey was conducted by the global market research institute Censuswide in the six major European markets of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Great Britain and Poland in 2024 and recorded the responses of a total of 6,000 consumers.
Prices for flexible packaging materials in Europe showed a mixed development in the third quarter of 2024, influenced by fluctuations in the availability of raw materials, logistics and international markets.

The price of flexible packaging materials across Europe continued the slow increase seen in Q1 as demand continued to rise for most substrates in the three months to end June 2024. Prices were also affected by supply side cost rises for both raw materials and logistics services.
Shipping disruptions in the Red Sea have had a significant impact on supply chains, leading to increased prices of European flexible packaging materials in the first quarter of the year.
Although destocking ends in Q4 2023 demand is stabilising in 2024. The final three
months of 2023 saw a mixed set of results in prices for the basket of flexible packaging
materials used to assess markets across Europe.

Today, the European Parliament adopted its negotiating position on the Commission proposal for a Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR). “This represents an important and long-awaited step forward in the legislative process which gets us closer to finalizing a text that will change the future of the way we package products for decades to come” states Guido Aufdemkamp, Executive Director of Flexible Packaging Europe.
